Stop It. You Know What to Do.

I’ll be honest — I almost didn’t know how to introduce Melissa Hughes on the show, because her work sits right at the intersection of everything I believe in and everything I’m still figuring out myself.

Melissa works with people on personal branding and content, and what she’s found — over and over again — is that the real issue underneath all of it is imposter syndrome. Not a lack of strategy, not a lack of ideas, not a lack of credentials. The Harvard graduate still feels like a fraud. The seasoned professional still deletes the post before hitting publish. The expert still thinks — who am I to say this?

And here’s what got me: the antidote isn’t confidence. It’s authenticity. Which sounds simple until you realize that being genuinely, vulnerably yourself is actually one of the harder things you can do. Because it means you stop performing and start showing up — and showing up means you might be misunderstood, judged, or ignored.

Melissa’s advice? Call out the thing. If you feel like a fraud, say so. If you’re posting your first video and you’re terrified, say that too. Vulnerability doesn’t cost you credibility — it’s actually what draws people in. We’re living in an age where everything sounds like it was written by the same algorithm, because a lot of it was. The person who shows up as a real human being — messy, genuine, imperfect — stands out by default.

The other thing she said that I keep coming back to: don’t find your voice. Trust it. The clarity comes from using it, fumbling through it, letting it come out the way it naturally does. Every time you do it, it gets a little easier and a little more like you.

Stop it. You know what to do.
